She has more than 20 years of experience supporting agencies, small businesses, non-profit organizations, and higher education with communications programs, program and policy development, and strategic planning. Good design and flexible, practical solutions are at the core of her work. Bowen’s training and educational background have focused on interdisciplinary solutions to environmental and social issues, including a Masters in Planning and a Certificate in Sustainable Cities from the University of Southern California and a Bachelors of Arts in Environmental Analysis – Policy from Pomona College. She also has training in green building, Human-Centered Design, non-profit administration, and food systems.

At Community Planning Collaborative, Bowen helps manage our ADU projects and has designed most of our comprehensive ADU guidebooks and ADU-related handouts and materials. She also develops visual products to communicate complex policy summaries, such as visual handouts describing the new SB 9 housing and land use law in 2021. Overall, Bowen coordinates the visual design of nearly all of our work and develops many of our web-based and digital products.

Bowen was the founding Sustainability Coordinator for Pomona College, where she built an award-winning, nationally recognized sustainability program and strategic plan for the institution. Since then she has been an associate planner, a non-profit communications director, and a business owner – all focused on the intersection of design, content, and functionality.

Bowen grew up in the Midwest, went to college and graduate school in Southern California, and now lives in the Pacific Northwest.
