Billy Stone

Billy is a planner, GIS specialist, and designer hailing from Missoula, Montana. Billy moved to California in 2017 to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Analysis from Pomona College. While in Southern California, Billy focused his work on mapping, urban design, and local urban planning. He has contributed to a diversity of projects including a site analysis of the Hyperion Wastewater Treatment Plant in El Segundo, California, a proposal and project design plan for community gardens at select stations of the Grand Paris Express in Paris, FR, a noise geography and disability impact analysis of Missoula, Montana’s downtown district, and an emergency shelter policy compliance web app with the OASIS Health Equity Mapping Lab. Most recently he worked with professors at University of Chicago Booth School of Business and at the University of Toronto's urban economics department, creating a geolocator which maps 1940s census data in Minneapolis, Minnesota to determine the effects of racially restrictive historical covenants on modern socioeconomic outcomes. Billy centers his work around urban equity, defining rurality, and disability justice.

Billy lives in the Bay Area and splits his time between Community Planning Collaborative and contributing to the Priority Sites Pilot Program at the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. He is excited to help CPC craft innovative tools for community development and policy communication. In addition to his passions for transit oriented development and urban design, Billy loves live music, dance, and hiking.
