Abbie Tuning

Abbie is a Bay Area native who loves cities built for people. She was raised in Oakland and studied at San Francisco State University, where she specialized in community-centered analysis of East Bay land use, transportation systems, and housing policy. Abbie excels at connecting the dots between people and policy, focusing on communities and the ways that local planning decisions shape our everyday lives. Abbie joined Community Planning Collaborative in 2022, where works with jurisdiction staff, local partners, and stakeholder groups to build accessible and engaging planning tools. From technical assistance for staff to resources for residents, she strives to make complicated systems easy for everyone.

Abbie has worked with the Santa Clara County Planning Collaborative since 2022 providing program administration, community engagement design, and resource development. She has contributed to a diversity of staff education and resource tools, including development constraints analyses, needs assessment, and stakeholder input efforts for Housing Elements. Abbie has also cultivated deep ADU experience developing both staff and public resources for ADU programs in the cities of Upland and Newport Beach, and the Counties of Santa Clara, San Mateo, Alameda, Amador, Calaveras, Mariposa, and Nevada.

When she’s not thinking about houses, you can find Abbie lounging by Lake Merritt, admiring the shipping cranes by the port, and wondering what’s hiding under Sutro Tower.
