Tacoma Climate Leadership Training

Working in partnership with Tacoma's Sustainability Manager, we organized and led three training workshops for the city's leadership team. The workshops were focused on developing a deeper understanding of projected climate change impacts in the city and region; evaluating potential impacts on city facilities, programs and operations; strategizing priority actions to reduce emissions and strengthen community resilience, particularly for low income communities of color; and delivering on the City Council's priorities for climate action as well as health, safety, access and jobs. The three two-hour workshops—A Climate of Change; Equity in Climate Action; and Into Action!—included presentations from invited experts; a panel of guest speakers from peer cities; and a sequence of participatory exercises and conversations leading to departmental commitments for near-term action steps.
