ADU Plans Gallery
As part of our suite of innovative tools and products for ADU programs, Community Planning Collaborative has developed a tool available for purchase by local governments to help accelerate ADU development in their communities - while complying with new state laws.
The ADU Plans Gallery connects homeowners interested in building an ADU with a wide diversity of ADU plans listed by trusted designers and prefab companies. Each gallery is hosted and customized by the local jurisdiction, and highlights plans that have been pre-approved by that jurisdiction in addition to other pre-designed plans. Listing pre-approved plans allows homeowners to save months of time and thousands of dollars in their ADU construction process, and allows jurisdictions to comply with AB 1332, among other state ADU requirements.
For local governments: The demo showcases a custom ADU Plans Gallery tool that California local governments can implement starting in late summer 2024. This tool will allow municipalities to display locally approved ADU designs and meet upcoming state requirements.
For homeowners: The demo offers a free, public resource to browse ADU designs and connect directly with designers, potentially saving homeowners design costs. The tool provides an Etsy-like shopping experience, offering a curated and growing database of both prefabricated and traditional site-built ADUs.
Meeting the Growing Demand for ADUs
ADUs have seen significant growth in California, accounting for one in five new homes in the state in 2023, according to the California Department of Finance. This increase underscores the importance of streamlined processes for ADU development.
The California ADU Plans Gallery is the latest addition to CPC’s award-winning ADUAccelerator.org tools and services. These resources are designed to streamline the ADU development process, save staff time, increase homeowner engagement, and accelerate housing production.

Starting January 1, 2025, California law will require all local governments to have a process for pre-approving ADU plans and an online method to connect homeowners with designers. The ADU Plans Gallery tool helps municipalities meet these requirements while offering:

In coming months over 40 jurisdictions across California will launch customized ADU Plans Galleries.
