Humboldt ADU
In 2021-22, we worked with Humboldt County, California, to develop resources supporting ADU development within unincorporated communities in the county. Humboldt struggles with sufficient opportunities to build new housing, especially affordable housing, and ADUs present a good opportunity to make a difference in housing for workers and families.
As part of our work together, we produced a customized ADU workbook, with detailed, step-by-step instructions for homeowners building ADUs – everything from initial inspiration through construction and move-in. This content was also packaged for a user-friendly website designed and developed by the County. We also provided a customized ADU calculator to estimate costs, helpful handouts and materials explaining the process to homeowners, and produced video and photo spotlights of real-world Humboldt ADUs, with detailed stories about local families developing ADUs.
